When you think of North Carolina, three things typically come to mind: college basketball, great universities and auto racing.
When it comes to the latter, you don’t want to miss The NASCAR Hall of Fame, part of the Blacktop Candy’s Historic South Tour. You’ll feel right at home here when you’re traveling through the South in one of Blacktop Candy’s restored classic cars.
Everything NASCAR and Then Some
Within the walls of this 150,000-square-foot museum, you’ll marvel like I did at a high-tech, interactive, history-filled tribute to this American sport. It’s hard to imagine more than 40,000-square feet of exhibits and artifacts – until you see it for yourself.
The museum opened in 2010 in downtown (aka Uptown) Charlotte to honor the heritage of the sport and educate race fans – and even non-fans—about this extremely popular form of auto racing.
The museum is home to nearly 1,000 artifacts, plus tributes to drivers, crew members and team owners from the past and present who’ve helped make the sport an international favorite.
Something for Everyone
One of the things I love about The NASCAR Hall of Fame is that it’s such an educational experience. Children, long-time fans, gear heads and anyone else who appreciates an enduring piece of America’s history will find plenty to love about this place. (Check out this interactive map before you go to give you a good idea of what to expect: http://www.nascarhall.com/experience-the-hall/interactive-map).
When you’re ready to take a break, grab some grub at the 8,400-square-foot Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant (yes, that’s 8,400!)
A definite “must-see” at the museum is Glory Road. This area features a banked ramp that simulates various racetracks. Glory Road also showcases 18 historic cars plus 40 current and historic tracks.
Blacktop Candy’s is all about exploring America and celebrating classic cars. The NASCAR Hall of Fame is just the place to make it happen.
